A Few Words with Tom Lawlor Before UFC 100
GSP and Brock Lesnar are all over the posters and billboards for UFC100 this weekend, but many NY/NJ and Boston fight fans are equally excited to see how their own warriors do this Saturday as Jon Jones (Endicott, NY), Jim Miller (Sparta, NJ) and Tom Lawlor (Massachusetts) will be apart of the main and undercard as well.
Lawlor currently trains at The Jungle gym in Florida and is looking to turn heads on Saturday with his fight at 185 vs. another former TUF contestant C.B. Dolloway. MMAphotography.com recently reached out to Tom and here’s how he’s how he’s feeling just about 24 hours from fight night…
How do you feel going into this fight on Saturday?
I’m all tingly inside! I’m pumped to be apart of UFC 100. I’ve had a good training camp, I’ve got a good opponent and I’m ready to put on a show.
This is your first fight at 185 since you appeared on TUF as a 205er. Was it harder than usual cutting weight for this fight?
This is actually my first fight at 185. It isn’t overly hard to cut the weight, it is more of a mental thing where I can’t just pig out. I do have the occassional HUGE cheat meal, like 3 Primanti Bros, sandwiches in Pittsburgh last week, but other than that it isn’t hard with my high activity level.
Does it feel special to be apart of UFC 100 or does it just feel like another fight in the Octagon?
I’ll let you know on Saturday=)Are you worried about C.B. Dolloway’s big bad peruvian necktie?
No. I’ve already decided I won’t tap to that move. If i get caught in it, shame on me. However I have been working on a counter to the move that I call the “Cincinnatti Bowtie.”
What would a win mean to you on Saturday?
Mo’ money, no problems. More fights, more exposure. I just love competing, and I love doing it for the UFC.You’ve always seemed like a big partier? Plan to hit the town in Las Vegas after your fight? Where do you like to gamble or go drinking out there?
I don’t gamble at all. I have a very addictive personality and if I gambled once and won, I’d do it all night. I like to take things to the extreme, and I’ll stick with doing it with partying. I don’t know where I will be Saturday night, but Sunday I’ll def hit up Rehab or the Wet Republic. Last fight, I went to my opponent’s afterparty, this time I will follow the crowd so that I’m not tied down. The beard proved good luck at your last outing, are you keeping it for this fight?
Nope. I do have a shorter version of the beard, and was planning on having just a mustache, but I like the look I have as I type. I recently got my hair cut just like Shawn from VH1’s Tool Academy, so that will be my look for this fight. However I think i have luck on my side, because the UFC just updated the fight order and my fight is now third of the night, just like my last fight which i won!
